8 Optimizations You Can Make to Your eCommerce Website Right Now

Think you need to hire an eCommerce SEO services specialist to improve your website’s organic footprint?

Think again. While they can help you fast-track things (in a manner of speaking) and can do things you can’t, like build links and perform technical optimizations, there are things you can do right now to improve the performance of your eCommerce website.

Here are 8 of them.

Scrap Duplicate Copy

Have you used duplicate copy anywhere on your website, such as manufacturer descriptions of products?

Get rid of it. It’s not doing anything, either for the AI or SEO value, of your website.

Write New Copy for Product Descriptions

Now that you’ve gotten rid of the duplicate copy on your website, write new copy for it. Anything original is better than anything duplicate.

But here’s the SEO secret. Think about a keyword you want the page in question to rank for. Include that copy in the description you write.

It doesn’t have to be a big description, either. Anywhere from 100 to 300 words will suffice.

Compress Images Before Uploading

Huge image files that tank website loading speeds are, for most websites, the biggest technical hurdle.

Fortunately, there are free image compression tools you can use to help prevent this issue. Make sure you compress them before you upload them and you should see a marked difference.

Add Alt Text to Images

When you’re uploading images, make sure you never upload one without sticking at least one keyword in the alt text field.

This won’t make a huge difference in getting the page on which the image lives to rank, but it can increase the number of impressions your website gets in the image search results.

Change Your Headers

If you have keywords you want a given page to rank for, the simplest optimization you can make, period, is just to insert those keywords in the headers on the target pages.

Skim the page in question. Look at the headers. Find where the keywords could be inserted naturally and go with that.

Write Your Own Meta Descriptions

The good news is that Google will automatically generate meta descriptions if you don’t want to (or don’t have time to) write them.

But if you write your own you get a chance, first, to add keywords into them, and second, to offer a little bit of informative copy for readers hovering over the page listing in the SERPs.

Add FAQs to a CMS Page

If your website has any evergreen CMS pages, you can also add FAQs to them.

Search something relevant to your website or its products in Google. Take a look at what shows up in the People Also Ask search feature.

Take 5 to 20 of these, add them to the CMS page, and answer the questions. It’s a great way to get more eyes on your website.

Find and Remove Broken Links

Go into Google Search Console. On the left side, under “Indexing,” go to “Pages.” Click on that, and under the section for “Why Pages Aren’t Indexed,” look for “404” issues.

Find these pages and remove the links on them that are broken, or implement redirects. This will improve the technical performance of your website.

When in Doubt, Hire a Specialist for eCommerce SEO Services

These are among the most basic optimizations you can make for an eCommerce website. But if it sounds like doing the keyword research and actually making the optimizations is too much to handle, try working with an eCommerce SEO services specialist.

There’s a reason these specialists exist. They’re experienced, efficient, and their work is substantiated by results. Get in touch with one today if your website could use the help.
